Aye She Can Do Karate!

Empowering Women & Girls Through Karate

Women and Girls of all ages and abilities are underrepresented in terms of membership of the Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) and in holding SKGB recognised Coaching Qualifications.  The aim of our Aye She Can Do Karate! programme is to make Karate, and the associated activities, more accessible to a wider variety of women and girls from across the city; many of whom are currently inactive.

Our Aye She Can Do Karate! programme is funded through Glasgow Sport's Energise-Her project.

Our Aye She Can Do Karate! projects

Female Parent & Carer Class

Our Female Parents & Carers Class on a Thursday evening is aimed at, but not exclusively for, the female parents & carers of the kids who attend our Disability Karate Class running at the same time. This class is part of our Aye She Can Do Karate project (funded through Glasgow Sports Energise-Her Programme) and is FREE OF CHARGE to participants until the end of March 2020.

Abercorn Secondary & Cleveden Secondary Classes

Our classes at Abercorn and Cleveden Secondary School provide an introductory Karate based programme of fun activities for female pupils at both schools  with a view to the girls engaging with / becoming members of our Karate club.

Achieving a Coaching Qualification

We are supporting one of our young adult female members to become actively involved in our Aye She Can Do Karate project and to achieve her level one Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) Coaching Licence.

The goals of our projects are:
  • To increase the uptake and participation of women and girls accessing and participating in the project and Karate more generally.
  • Sustain the women and girls ongoing and regular involvement with the Kugatsu Karate-Do beyond the life of the project.
  • To improve the general health and well-being of the women and girls through their active involvement in Karate.
