Our Competition Squad
Members of KKD Shukokai have the opportunity to participate in the sporting / competitive aspect of Karate. Our students regularly participate in local, national and international Karate competitions. Recent events entered include:
- The World Karate Federation Youth League
- The British Karate Federation British (4 Nations) Championships
- The BKF International Open Championships
- The Scottish Karate Governing Body Scottish Championships
- The Scottish International Open Karate Championships
- The Scottish Karate Grand Prix (4 events each year)
- The Cumbria Open
- The KKD Shukokai Inter-Club Competitions
Our students have the opportunity to compete in both Kumite (sparring) and Kata (forms) events at competitions of all levels. In order to prepare students for competition KKD Shukokai have appointed Kata and Kumite Squad coaches who will lead regular squad training sessions. The squad training sessions are open the KKD Shukokai members of all ages, grades and abilities.
Over the years our students have consistently achieved success at local, national and international karate competitions.
Justine Lennon
Kata Coach
Justine Lennon is a fully qualified Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) coach and with over 16 years experience in Shito-ryu and Shukokai karate. She boasts a wealth of experience in competition sport karate. Justine has 5 caps for the Scotland National Team, having competed at the following International Karate Championships.
- 5th WKF World Karate Junior & Cadet Championships; Turkey 2007 (16-18 yrs Female Kata)
- 35th EKF European Karate Cadet & Junior Championships; Italy 2008 (16-18 yrs Female Kata)
- 19th WKF World Karate Senior Championships; Japan 2008 (Senior Female Kata)
- 44th EKF European Karate Senior Championships; Croatia, 2009 (Senior Female Kata)
- 38th EKF European Karate Junior, Cadet & Under 21 Championships; Serbia, 2011 (Under 21 yrs Female Kata)
Justine is also 9 times Scottish Champion (SKGB), former British Champion (British Karate Federation), former Scottish International Open Champion and former British International Open Champion.
